Do you find yourself confused about what to do, then you pick something and find yourself unable to focus? You procrastinate and get easily getting distracted? Or are you always spending your time putting out fires – only getting to things when they become really urgent or a deadline is looming?I still find myself doing this sometimes and YES I am getting better! After wasting a ton of time in the beginning of this entrepreneurial business venture, not knowing what to focus on or how best to prioritize my time and tasks, I realized I needed something to change. What I found I needed to help me move forward with more clarity and more ease, was having a clear vision in place for what I wanted to accomplish. I needed to know where I was going and why.
A vision pulls you forward and helps you quickly decide priorities and sort tasks… by saying YES to something, you are automatically saying NO to something else. If your goal for the day is to talk to 5 people on the phone, it’s easy to say Yes to that and maybe you’re saying No to mindless TV? By saying Yes to writing a weekly newsletter, what do YOU have to say No to, in order to accomplish that?
By having a clear vision for your business day and week and month and year, what they look like and feel like, you are much more likely to know WHAT to focus on, what to say Yes to and what to say No to, each and every day.
Taking this a step further and actually making it easier, what’s your bigger YES? Why do you do what you do? What drives you to be in business in the first place? Providing for your family? Making a difference in the lives of others? Contributing to the world? Helping hundreds of people have a better life? Whatever it is that made you WANT to be in business for yourself – I invite you to get in touch with that feeling, that desire and write a word, or find a picture that represents that for you, anchor it and create yourself a touchstone. Place that picture or word somewhere prominent on your desk… Get in touch with your BIGGER YES, that compelling vision that propels you to stop wasting time and instead, to go forward. I encourage you to use that vision touchstone to fuel your choices next time you find yourself spinning your wheels in confusion.
